• Raise your deductible. It can be a gamble, sure. You will be responsible for more of the bill if you get into an accident.  But this is a great way to lower your yearly insurance costs.
  

• Shop around.  It may not be in your best interest to stay with the same insurance company each year.  You are able to cancel or change your policy at any time.  There is no need to wait until the policy to expires.  So shop around for a new insurance company each year and compare prices to make sure you're getting the best deal.
  

• Remove extras that you don't need.  Have towing and rental car coverage might help you sleep at night, but those extras are not used often and certainly aren't worth the extra premium.  You will pay between $10.00 and $30.00 per year to cover towing.  In the unlikely event that you need a tow, you will pay around $100.00.  Also, a small rental car costs $20.00 - $25.00 a day, but a car rental add-on will tack on another $20.00 - $40.00 to your bill each year.  Leave these extras off and you will sleep well know that you saved yourself some money.
  

• Protect your credit and your credit score.  More insurance companies have started to use credit-based insurance scores in determining how much you pay.  So, paying your electric bill on time will actually keep your auto insurance costs down.
  

• Find out about discounts. Vehicles with anti-theft and safety devices cost less for the insurance company to insure.  Also, you will probably get a discount if you insure your home and car with the same insurer. People who refrain from drinking alcohol, get good grades, or take drivers education courses may also rewarded with lower insurance premiums.
  

• Get and stay informed. The best way to save on any insurance is to do your research before you buy.  And be sure to get recommendations from friends and family.
