A re-established high-risk pool for those denied coverage in the individual market. In its first year, the plan will only accept 6,000 applicants, with most of them coming over from the old TennCare program (estimated number of uninsured in the state is 600,000). Premiums will be at 150- 200 percent of market cost, meaning that the highest cost will be twice that of what a healthy person would pay on the open market.
Cover Tennessee (CoverTN)
Creates a partnership between the state of Tennessee, private employers and eligible individuals to offer guaranteed, affordable, basic health coverage for uninsured working Tennesseans. As approved by the legislature, the state, participating employers and eligible employees will each contribute $50 a month toward a low cost, low benefit health plan costing an estimated $150 per month for basic coverage.
